Christian Marclay's The Clock: 24-Hour Free Film Screening

For something free, fun, and arty to put on your calendar, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and KCRW are co-presenting round-the-clock screenings of a new art film, Christians Marclay's The Clock:

From the LACMA website:

Join us for the West Coast premiere of artist Christian Marclay's The Clock, a 24-hour single-channel montage constructed from thousands of moments of cinema and television history depicting the passage of time. Marclay has excerpted each of these moments from their original contexts and edited them together to create a functioning timepiece synchronized to local time wherever it is viewed—marking the exact time in real time for the viewer for 24 consecutive hours. The sampled clips come from films of all genres, time periods, and cultures, some lasting only seconds, others minutes, and have been culled from hundreds of films, famous and obscure, into a seamless whole. The result, a melding of video and reality, unfolds with a seemingly endless cast of cameos. This free screening will allow The Clock to be seen in the way Marclay intended, by making it available in its entirety.

Free Screening: "The Battle Over Citizen Kane"

Citizen Kane is on many people's list of Top 10 movies, and even if it's not on yours, chances are good that you've seen it, and probably more than once. If it's been too long since you've seen it on a big screen, LACMA is providing the opportunity to view it as it should be viewed this November 29th, at 7:30PM. Prior to the showing of Citizen Kane they are offering a free screening of the documentary: The Battle Over Citizen Kane at 5:00PM. This Academy Award-nominated documentary tracks Citizen Kane's passage from script stage, through early previews (Hedda Hopper called it "a vicious and irresponsible attack on a great man") up to its release and devastating aftermath, and seems like something no movie buff would want to miss.

LookLA Free Movie Screening: Deep Water

This just in from LookLA:

Thrillseekers and film buffs take extra note of this one. Campus Circle invites the members of lookLA to a free film screening of Deep Water. From the producer of the climbing classic Touching the Void, Deep Water follows the voyage of Donald Crowhurst, one of the nine yachtsmen who joined a 1969 "London Times"-sponsored competition to make a highly publicized solo trip around the world. Crowhurst, a former engineer, but hardly the most experienced sailor, attempted this feat in a boat that he designed himself. A few weeks into the voyage it began leaking. Continuing through the vicious waters of Cape Horn appeared to be suicidal, but returning home meant humiliation and financial ruin.
